Veiled Christ Sculpture Details:
This Marble Veiled Christ sculpture is life-size. The skinny Jesus is lying on a marble chair with a marble pillow under his head. Jesus has one hand on the marble chair and one hand on his leg, with his head, tilted to the side. The body is covered with a thin veil, through which you could still see Jesus’ clear muscle lines, delicate facial features, and slender fingers. Next to Jesus are some marble instruments of torture.
Statue Introduction:
The prototype of this statue appeared in 1753, and it is considered one of the most stunning sculptures in the world. Originally made by the sculptor Antonio Corradini, after his death the work was passed to Giuseppe Sanmartino, who continued the sculpture, and the statue is preserved in the Chapel of San Severino in Naples.
