Introduction to the Sculpture:
The little mermaid statue is very famous. The original sculpture is located on the seaside of Langelinie Park in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built on August 23, 1913.
Edvard Eriksen is a famous Danish sculptor who creates symbolic works. After receiving the commission, he studied Andersen’s original work in depth and designed this unique sculpture in combination with his artistic style. Eriksen did not completely shape the little mermaid’s image according to the fairy tale description but gave her a more abstract and modern beauty.
In the sculpture, the little mermaid sits on the rock, with her legs curled up, her hands on her legs, and looks forward quietly. This sculpture is a landmark in Denmark and an important cultural symbol in the world.
